CSK’s Heartbreaking Exit
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a heartbreaking end to their IPL 2024 campaign on Saturday, losing by 27 runs to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This defeat has sparked widespread speculation about whether MS Dhoni will retire from IPL or make a comeback for the 2025 season.
Robin Uthappa’s Insight
Former CSK batsman and commentator Robin Uthappa has provided some insights that suggest Dhoni is not yet ready to hang up his boots. In an interaction with JioCinema, Uthappa expressed confidence in Dhoni’s return for the next season.
“I don’t think we have seen the last of MS. He is not someone who takes these things lightly. He will come back roaring for sure,” Uthappa said.
Uthappa also mentioned Dhoni’s calf injury, which limited his playing time. “Even with the narrative, I have seen him bat only in the last 4 or 5 overs, there is a reason for it. He had a calf injury which they initially thought perhaps was a niggle, but it was a little more grave than that. Because of that, he had to manage himself and often as he does, in international cricket and for CSK, he figured out a way to be useful and contribute to CSK,” Uthappa added.
Despite the loss, Dhoni’s performance in the match against RCB was noteworthy. His 25-run innings off just 13 balls gave CSK a fighting chance. In the final over, with CSK needing 17 runs to qualify for the playoffs, Dhoni began with a massive six, putting pressure on RCB’s young bowler Yash Dayal.
However, Yash Dayal managed to dismiss Dhoni and bowled effectively, leaving CSK needing 10 runs off just 2 balls. Despite Ravindra Jadeja’s efforts, he couldn’t overcome Dayal’s slower deliveries, resulting in CSK’s exit from the tournament.
The Speculation Continues
As the dust settles on CSK’s IPL 2024 campaign, the cricket world remains abuzz with speculation about Dhoni’s future. While some believe it might be the end of an era, others, like Uthappa, are confident that Dhoni will make a comeback for IPL 2025.
For now, fans will have to wait and watch as Dhoni and CSK regroup and plan for the future.
